traces

Impression is simultaneously the act of making a mark and the resulting imprint that continues to act upon the world.

Orphaned by the loss of their origins, traces compel the observer to invent the other, to the point of losing their own bearings. From architectural breaches to urban fissures, they subvert rectilinear planes to materialize a succession of choices over time.

Yet, contexts shift and create a discordance in rhythm: the footsteps of coastal sauropods thus find themselves frozen at the summits of mountains. A trace, therefore, never proves its context, only that a passage occurred; it carries a different meaning for the one who leaves it and the one who discovers it.

Sculpted today in information and the mist of the noosphere as it once was in clay, creation remains an ephemeral trace. It exists and endures, much like a forest path, only as long as beings driven by desire persist in treading it.
